Welcome to the Mold Town Concert Band Website

About Us

The band was originally formed as the Argoed Concert Band in 1997. Adopted by Mold Town Council in 1999 we became the Mold Town Band, changing our name in 2002 to

Mold Town Concert Band ( in order to avoid being confused with a brass or silver band!)

The band currently consists of approximately 40  friendly & enthusiastic musicians who play a variety of  woodwind/brass instruments. We are open to all ages from school students through to retired members -  currently ranging from approx 13 to 80 plus!

There is no entry audition but the recommended level of proficiency, in order to enjoy participation is a minimum equivalent to Grade 3 - 4 of ABRSM Examinations. Although keen to attract student members we do realise that they will often be committed to their school and county ensembles and therefore also wish to attract older players who, having learnt instruments as youngsters, may perhaps not have played for some time but still have the potential to make a valued contribution to a Concert Band!

A constantly evolving repertoire ranges from serene to swing - including concert marches, contemporary, popular, classical, film/ musical medleys, jazz and big band arrangements... and more! Whilst occasionally tackling more challenging pieces, the emphasis is on performing a wide range of music whilst having fun!

The band is a registered charity and receives support from the Mold Town Council in return for 'official duties' such as  the Remembrance Sunday Parade, playing at the switching on of Christmas illuminations and at Mold Carnival. Performances encompass a variety of concerts both open-air and indoors, in the  immediate locality and beyond  in the Chester, Liverpool and North Wales areas, with appearances in 2011 having included Erddig (National Trust) , Mold Food Fair, Llandudno Bandstand, St Asaph Cathedral ... and more!   ....  totalling, over the course of a year, some 10  - 12 engagements.

The band is also grateful for the support it receives from Tŷ Cerdd (formally the Welsh Amateur Music Federation).

Members pay a small monthly subscription - currently £5.00 from which students and children are exempt.

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings in Mold Town Hall, Earl Road between 7.15 pm and 9.15 pm (except during August and  Bank Holidays).

Rehearsals are always enjoyable under the expert guidance of our musical director Geoff Coward so if you are considering joining a band for the first time, you could not make a better choice than Mold Town Concert Band!

Want to join? - see our contacts page and/or come along to a rehearsal and have a go.

The Mayor of Mold, Councillor Joyce Jones, presents the Band with the Mayor's Cup for 2007 - in recognition of the Band's service to the community.
